Folks, I have a confession to make. I adore puppets. I grew up on Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and Fraggle Rock. I wanted Mr. Snuffleupagus as my imaginary friend. I wanted to be BFF’s with Red.Now before anyone gets up in arms, I know that there is a “difference“ between puppets and muppets. Jim Henson instilled a love of puppet and muppet characters that even now, in my early 30’s, I am in love with puppets and muppets.
Thankfully there are a lot of great ways to enjoy them with adult content. Avenue Q, was a Broadway musical that was akin to Sesame Street for adults. I have never seen the production itself, but I own the soundtrack. There is also Transylvania Television, which is a hilarious show about puppet monsters that run a television station. The Ridiculous Puppet Company is an up and coming puppeteer company located in Minnesota, I am blessed to call their seamstress/puppet wrangler as my best friend. Aside from the fact, that my aforementioned BFF is a co-founder, what these folks do is actually wonderful and hilarious.
What do you still enjoy from your childhood, that might just also be not just for kids anymore?
