Yes, loving myself and my body came last. It is honestly the last thing I thought of when I decided to make this list. Over the past year, I’ve learned these things and that is why they are listed as last.
I can look in the mirror and these days more often than not I think “I am beautiful. I am sexy. I am the person I am meant to be.” I don’t know exactly how I got to this point. Especially since I spent the better part of 2011 dieting (counting calories) and exercising to lose 30 pounds, only to gain it (along with an extra fifteen pounds) back throughout 2012.
As to the weight gain, I’m accepting of it. I know why it came back, and I know why my initial weight loss regime wasn’t the correct/best one for me. The thing is, I don’t care as much anymore. Admittedly, I need to become more active, but I want to do that more for my mental health than my physical health.
My doctor confirms that I am overweight, but also points out that the BMI scale is outdated. I’m healthy, but just like many other people I could have a healthier body. Hell my two sisters are beautiful tall willow thin women, who have terrible cardiovascular systems. So it’s not all about the extra 20-30 pounds I haul around.
The thing is, and I guess really my entire point is. Don’t let anyone ever tell you what or who you should be. Unless you’re a complete dick, then knock that shit off and go be nicer to people. Also, why are you even here if you’re a dick? I don’t tolerate that type of attitude.
I’m going to close with a video, because I haven’t done that since the inception of this blog and because the song is very reaffirming to me. Regardless of your personal feelings or thoughts about the artist, please bear in mind that it is the meaning behind the lyrics and the song that I want you to hear. If you dislike Amanda Palmer, just forget that for a few minutes and listen to what she is saying.
